Upkeeping
Everything that keeps your life running. Filters, services, descaling, the dentist, the car — they come round too rarely to keep track of, so Upkeeping does it for you and tells you what's due.
The idea
At a pace you can keep
You decide how often each thing should happen. Upkeeping keeps the dates, shows you the pace you actually manage, and leaves the judgement to you — because things slip, and a schedule that ignores that is no use to anyone.
Your intervals
Templates suggest a starting interval and tell you why. Take it or set your own; after that it’s yours, and nothing moves it behind your back.
Late is normal
Miss it by three weeks and the schedule moves three weeks. Nothing piles up, nothing turns red, and no one is keeping score.
The pace you actually keep
It shows the interval you set beside the one you really manage. If they disagree, you get to decide which was right.
What goes in it
Filters, services, appointments
Anything with a gap long enough that you genuinely cannot remember. Under a fortnight or so you tend to remember without help, which is where a habit tracker serves you better.
Around the house
The HVAC filter you bought a three-pack of and cannot recall whether you are on the second or the third. Descaling the kettle. Smoke alarm batteries.
Booked, not just done
Some things need an appointment before they can happen. The dentist every six months is two steps — book it, then attend — and the App tracks both.
The car and the pets
Oil changes, tyre rotations, vet checkups, flea and tick treatments, nail trims. Templates cover the common ones, each carrying the reasoning for its interval.
No account, no server, no analytics
Upkeeping runs on your iPhone and syncs to your own private iCloud, so your items follow you across devices. We have no backend and no access to any of it — an architectural fact rather than a policy. The widget makes no network requests at all.
On the home screen
Quiet by default
A widget that tells you what is due and otherwise stays out of the way. No streaks, no badges, no celebration for changing a filter. Newly due things come to the top; what you have already passed on stays where you left it.
A daily digest
One notification a day, at a time you pick, listing what has come due. Scheduled locally on the device.
An ambient face
The widget can show sunrise, sunset, and moon phase instead. Computed on the device from a coarse location — optional, and off unless you ask for it.
Done from the widget
Mark something done straight from the widget, without opening the App. It is available as a Shortcuts action too.
