Getting into Parivrtta Trikonasana
From the same wide standing stance as Trikonasana, square your hips toward your right (front) leg. Fold forward and rotate your torso, bringing your left hand to the floor (or a block) outside your right foot, and reach your right arm straight up. Keep both legs straight and your hips squared forward rather than open to the side.
Described on the right side. On the left, swap right for left throughout.
What a teacher would tell you
- Square the hips forward.
- Press down through the back heel.
- Lengthen the spine first.
These are the corrections My Ashtanga speaks aloud while you hold the posture.
