Getting into Supta Konasana

Lying on your back, swing both legs up and overhead, wide apart, until your feet reach the floor behind and to each side of your head. Reach your arms back and catch your big toes or outer feet with your hands, this rolled-back position, holding the toes, is where you stay for the five breaths. To come out, inhale and roll up along your spine, keeping hold of your toes, balance for a moment on your sit bones, then exhale and land your legs wide and straight, setting down onto your calves, not your heels, with your chin reaching toward the floor. Then sit up.

What a teacher would tell you

  • Reach the legs wide, overhead.
  • Toes to the floor.
  • Hold the feet or the floor.

These are the corrections My Ashtanga speaks aloud while you hold the posture.
